Close Encounter of the Cat Kind

Valentine's Day is here!  Daddy will be coming back to Grandma and Grandpa's house this evening from the convention in Anaheim.  Mommy takes Grandma and J into the back hall for some help getting the washing machine going.  And E decides it's a great time to go check out the cats in Grandma's room.  Mommy just barely gets the wash going and then hears crying coming from down the hall.  Mommy rushes down the hall to find E covered in blood.  So she gets E cleaned up enough to find this huge scratch through her lip.  It's almost dinner time and we are headed to the E.R.

We had a great Dr. who took care of E.  And a great nurse that played peek-a-boo with E (from the nurses station).  They all loved her and were calling her cute names.  She was jumping around her room like a "daddy frog", and playing with the curtain, and waving at the nurses, and washing her hands in the sink with a floor peddle (at least 16 times).

Dr. Clawson got her used to the Novocaine needle by dripping it into her cut "like water".  Then spraying a cotton ball with Novocaine and putting that on the cut too.  Then he called it her mustache.  She thought that was funny because Daddy has a beard.  I guess mustache and beard go together in her mind.  After coming and repeating this process about 5 times, then he poked her a few times and she didn't like that much.  But he got enough medicine in there to numb it up and he was able to put 3 stitches in and she was a Champ!!

Valentine's Day was Thursday and we made an appointment to get the stitches out on Tuesday.  However, E picked 2 of the stitches out on Sunday, so we went in on Monday and they said it was healing fine (and they took the last stitch out).

I'm so grateful that the cat didn't scratch her eye, that she is such a fast healer, and that she was such an amazing sport about the whole situation.  I'm also grateful that my kids are such great eaters, so it didn't bother me too much that they ate all the snacks in my bag  at the E.R. so they weren't hungry when we got home at 9-9:30 pm and just wanted to go to bed. I'm thankful for a good Dr. that was willing to take the time (and over time) with E so she could have a good experience. As opposed to being terrified of the E.R. and needles for the rest of her life.  Thank you Grandma for coming with us to the E.R. and for holding J while I was with E, and for feeding him all the snacks so he didn't get to fussy.  Thank heaven for my little girl!  Happy Valentine's Day!
